State water demand
From Water Wiki
California ranked first in water usage of public, domestic, irrigation and livestock. Idaho ranked first in aquaculture water usage. Louisiana and Texas ranked first in Industrial use. Minnesota ranked first in mining. Texas ranked first in Thermoelectric usage.
California (51,200 Mgal/d), Texas (29,600 Mgal/d), and Florida (20,100 Mgal/d) accounted for one-fourth of all water withdrawals for 2000. In the majority of water use categories CA used the most.
"A comparison of the intensity of freshwater withdrawals (see graphic below) in gallons per day per square mile, shows that some smaller- and medium-sized States in the eastern United States have a greater intensity of freshwater withdrawals per square mile compared to some larger-sized western States . California and Idaho also are high in water-use intensity; however, Texas, the State with the second largest total withdrawals, is relatively low in water-use intensity."[1]
