Visuals and Dumping the Drone

With the Online Modules pilot group, we’ve been discussing ways to make our presentations less wordy, and more visual.  I was impressed with this slideshow on dumping the drone form our presentations, and the way it used so few words—yet it’s still easy to follow even without the audio (narration) or script!

It’s geared toward online corporate presentations, but it’s relevant to the elearning modules that a number of faculty in the school are currently developing.  There are also some great nuggets in there for any of our presentations.  Take a look.

What did you get out of the presentation? Let me know.

    Great
    You defined the drone
You explained how to dump and replace him/her
I want to engage the learners; have them develop the course with me (college level economics)
    Any ideas?

Yes, you’re right, the more engaged they are, the better. I think a possible place to start there is with a wiki or other collaborative tools. Then build in assignments to your course that have learners developing a corpus of knowledge about topics related to your course. Students publish publicly, get feedback from one another (often needs to be required). There’s a very promising tool that can help facilitate this. I’ve not used it myself, but I’m intrigued and am looking for the right opportunity. http://www.mixedink.com/main.php
